SCHEDULE CHANGE: On Sunday, September 12, our fall church schedule resumes. Worship will be at 10:00am. Adult Bible Class will be at 9:00am. The Nest (our revised Sunday School program—see below) meets at 8:30am.
“FLY TO THE NEST!” is the theme of this year’s revised Sunday School program. This program will be more interactive than in previous years and will give students more opportunities to do hands-on learning activities. The name “The Nest” was chosen because the traditional symbol of St. John is the eagle and because Isaiah 40:31 says, “Those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.” The learning area in our church basement will become a nest where our young people gain strength from God’s word for their Christian lives as they prepare to go out into the world each following week.
The Nest could also use some help from those who would be willing to provide occasional snacks for the children each week. We are asking for people to sign up to provide a snack for about 12 children per Sunday. A signup sheet has been placed in the church narthex for this purpose.
ADULT BIBLE CLASS begins next Sunday, September 12, at 9:00am. We will begin this year’s class with a study of Islam, noting the differences between the Quran and the Bible.
CHURCH ANNIVERSARY SUNDAY will be Sunday, September 12. As in the past, we plan to put our special offering that day toward work that needs to be done on our church property.
FVL FALL FOOTBALL CHEERLEADING is starting the season with parental supervision at practices with no coach. Persons interested in coaching fall football cheer can email gstrusz@fvlhs.org for details. Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00-5:20 PM.
